The Austin Police Department is investigating the city’s 44th homicide of 2025.
It unfolded Saturday night at a mobile home community in South Austin.



Investigators said the victim was found on private property, but it’s unclear if he lived there.
Last year, 72 homicides were reported in Austin, down from 75 in 2023 but the up from the 71 reported in 2022. A record 90 homicides were reported in 2021.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

On Monday, September 29, Austin residents will receive a test emergency alert. This is because the city of Austin is now a FEMA-approved authority that can use the national emergency alert system, IPAWS.

IPAWS, or the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, is a federal system that allows local jurisdictions to send alerts to the public through cell phone towers, television, and radio without requiring a subscription. FEMA’s national system provides the public with verified, life-saving emergency information. (KXAN-TV)
Authorities in Gillespie County have arrested two students from Harper High School in connection with a “viable threat” against the school.
After the school district notified law enforcement of the potential threat on Wednesday, deputies launched an investigation. They arrested a male student, who has been charged with two felonies and is currently being held in a juvenile detention facility. Authorities arrested a second male student the following day, charging him with a state jail felony.
The Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office says it is taking all threats to schools in the area seriously and that there is no longer a threat to Harper ISD. (KVUE-TV)

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Despite scoring two rushing touchdowns in the first half, Arch Manning continued to struggle operating and moving the Longhorns offense, as he completed 5 of 16 passes for 69 yards and an interception. He finished the first half with 10 consecutive incompletions as the 40-point favorite Longhorns held only a 14-3 lead over UTEP.
