Well, that was one for the political history books.
The 2026 midterm election in Texas marked a historic political realignment, shattering more than three decades of uninterrupted Republican dominance across top statewide executive offices.
Democrats achieved unprecedented victories by sweeping the state’s executive leadership: Gina Hinojosa defeated three-term incumbent Greg Abbott to become the first Democratic governor elected in Texas since Ann Richards won in 1990—and the first Latina governor in state history—while James Talarico unseated Ken Paxton to capture Texas’s U.S. Senate seat, securing the party’s first Senate victory in the state since 1988.
Driven by dramatic partisan shifts across key suburban strongholds and heavy Democratic gains among Hispanic voters in South Texas, this electoral wave effectively dismantled the longest single-party winning streak in modern American politics, reshaping the balance of power in Texas and sending profound shockwaves throughout national politics.
I am still processing what’s taken place, as are many folks today, I’m sure.
What’s next? What will the true ramifications be in Texas and in the national scope of things? Can a GOP presidential candidate win in 2028 in a climate where Texas turned blue and Florida came really close?
What does this mean for data centers, ICE enforcement, THC, gambling, abortion, property taxes, school vouchers…?
So many questions.
It’s like a soap opera. Stay tuned…these questions and more will be answered…

As always, thanks for reading.
