A suspect is in custody this morning and is being treated for a gunshot wound after fleeing and firing upon officers during a routine traffic stop in North Austin.



Austin Energy crews, with assistance from neighboring utility companies, is now in Phase 3 of their efforts to restore power to the remaining customers left without electricity after Wednesday night’s powerful microburst storm.

As of 6:00 a.m. this morning, less than 1,000 customers were still in the dark.




Meanwhile, Austin Energy officials are hosting a public event today to answer questions and provide updates about their efforts to restore power.


Authorities in Texas are searching for McArthur Deashy Mathis, a registered sex offender with multiple violent charges, who escaped a psychiatric hospital in Austin this week. Mathis fled the Cross Creek Psychiatric and Addiction Hospital around 8 p.m. Wednesday by kicking open a back door and jumping a six-foot fence.
