31-year-old Deepak Kandel remains in the Travis County Jail facing a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Akshay Gupta, a passenger on a CapMetro bus traveling on South Lamar Boulevard Wednesday evening.
The attack was reportedly unprovoked and the two men did not know each other. Kandel admitted to stabbing Gupta because he resembled his uncle.
The city’s 25th homicide of the year is one that has especially stoked fear, concern and outrage among residents and voices on social media.
