Plumes of smoke from a large blaze yesterday at a scrap metal recycling plant could be seen for miles. Firefighters got the call just after 2:15 p.m. for a fire at Austin Metal & Iron Co. near the 10200 block of Decker Lane, near Harris Branch Parkway and Lindell Lane south of U.S. 290.

Authorities remained on the scene overnight. No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
