Elite Field & Past Champions

Notable elite contenders this year include Kellyn Taylor, a 39-year-old multiple-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, along with former winners Allie Kieffer and Rachel Baptista Tunningley, and 2028 Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier Kate Watson. Last year, Kieffer claimed her second straight victory in 34 minutes and 18 seconds, the first women’s repeat winner since 2016. On the men’s side, Alexander Torres Rojas edged out Jonathan Chung in a sprint finish, winning in 30 minutes and 24 seconds.

A Rich History

Established in 1978, the Statesman Capitol 10,000 has grown to become the largest 10K in Texas and sixth largest in the country. The race drew just over 5,500 runners in its inaugural year. Its all-time attendance record was set in 1987, when 28,341 runners lined the streets despite 33-degree temperatures. In 2025, Runner’s World ranked it the fourth most popular 10K in the U.S., based on its 19,320 finishers. Nearly half a century in, the Cap10K remains one of Austin’s most cherished spring traditions.
