Austin police are investigating a homicide in the 500 block of East 6th Street downtown just after 1:30 a.m. this morning. Police on foot in the area were alerted to the situation by a bystander and found a woman in an alley. She was taken to a local hospital when she was later pronounced dead. Police say they do have a “person of interest” in custody and believe there is no threat to the public as this was believed to be an isolated incident.

This will mark Austin’s 41st homicide of the year.
