The Independent Investigation Division of the Office of the Maryland Attorney General has opened an investigation into the actions of law enforcement officers in Baltimore after a man died in the custody of first responders on Tuesday. (WJZ)

The FBI released new preliminary data on reported law enforcement officer deaths while on active duty for the first half of the year. Thirty law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in the first half of 2023, a 6.25% decrease compared to the same time last year. April, May, and June had the most deaths, with six reported deaths each. (WMAR)

The Baltimore Banner reports that the Baltimore County Police Department have “closed ranks around public information”, saying the police communications office often fails or declines to make the department’s top brass available for public comment. Two reported shootings in Baltimore yesterday. An unidentified male was shot and sought treatment after an incident on Pennsylvania Avenue and the other occurred on West Saratoga Street where another unidentified male was shot in the groin and walked into a area hospital for treatment.
