Foreclosure rates increased both in Maryland and across the country during May as homeowners grapple with the lingering effects of the end of foreclosure moratoriums and high interest rates. The report also found that Baltimore had the third-highest foreclosure rate in May 2023 for metropolitan areas with a population greater than 1,000,000. One in every 1,908 housing units had a foreclosure filing in Baltimore in May, according to the property group ATTOM.(Maryland Daily Record)

An MTA bus crash in downtown Baltimore yesterday left 17 people injured. The driver of the bus reportedly attempted to avoid a vehicle speeding through a red light and wound up crashing into The 501 apartment building on the corner of North Paca and West Franklin streets. Another vehicle was involved in the incident. Of all the injuries, none were reported to be life-threatening. (Baltimore Sun)

A child entered a zoo enclosure Friday afternoon at the Salisbury Zoo. The child entered the South American yard enclosure, which houses the capybara, rheas and macaws. The child and its mother were able to get out of the exhibit with the help of zoo employees and another guest. No injuries were reported. (WMDT)

There’s another candidate for the Democratic nomination to represent the 5th Congressional District that includes all three Southern Maryland counties of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s and a small part of Prince George’s. A Hooters restaurant on Ocean City‘s boardwalk caught fire Thursday night. The Office of the Fire Marshal have determined that the cause of the fire was a sky lantern. The Ocean City Fire Department is now cautioning citizens against the use of sky lanterns within the city limits. (DelmarvaNow)
