The Austin Police Department has released body camera footage and details about last week’s fatal shooting of a burglary suspect inside a ThunderCloud Subs shop. The incident, which also wounded a bystander, occurred at the sandwich shop located at 1807 West Slaughter Lane.

According to the department, detectives were attempting to apprehend 33-year-old Raymond Lee Howard during a fugitive operation when they fatally shot him.

The Austin Police Department identified the officers involved as:

Detective Ricardo Cardona, a 12-year veteran.

Detective Marcus Gonzalez, an 8-year veteran.

Detective Craig Pruitt, a 7-year veteran.

State officials are now investigating a suspected widespread overdose incident that took place early Tuesday morning at Buckshot, a bar located on East 6th Street near Red River. According to the Austin Police Department, officers located five individuals needing medical attention, one of whom died.

A person was found dead at an Austin bus stop on Tuesday. The Northcross bus stop at 2535 Anderson/Northcross. 

A caller said a person was unresponsive on the bench at the bus stop.

Attorneys representing the family of Akshay Gupta, who police say was stabbed “without provocation” on a CapMetro bus in May, have filed a lawsuit against Keolis, CapMetro’s operating partner, and the driver who operated the bus when the stabbing happened.

Quiet weather across South Central Texas will continue through midweek as dry mid-level air continues to funnel in from the north from the Great Plains.

Expect mostly clear and dry weather Wednesday with highs in the mid 90s in the
Hill Country and upper 90s to near 100 for the Rio Grande, I-35 corridor, and Coastal Plains. Like Tuesday, a small and brief lone shower or two could crop up over the Coastal Plains in the late afternoon with daytime heating, but without much fanfare.
