The measles outbreak in Texas is still commanding attention locally and nationally.
As of Friday, these are the number of reported cases by county:
- Dallam: 4
- Dawson: 8
- Ector: 2
- Gaines: 98
- Lubbock: 2
- Lynn: 2
- Martin: 3
- Terry: 21
- Yoakum: 6
An unvaccinated infant in Austin was reported to have contracted the disease. Austin Public Health said the child’s family members are vaccinated and additional exposures aren’t expected.

Despite measles vaccines being a preventative measure, misinformation circulating online falsely claims a free vaccination initiative in Gaines County caused the recent measles outbreak. This outbreak, the state’s largest in 33 years with over 140 cases, is not caused by the vaccine, but rather by the spread of the virus itself. (Austin American Statesman)
