APD officers responded to a call about a deceased person laying in a pool of blood around 1:45 a.m.
The body appeared to have neck injuries and wounds that were “incompatible with life.” The victim died at the scene, but police have yet to share any details on their identity or on a possible suspect.
This would be the city’s second homicide of 2025.

Due to impending inclement weather and for “operational purposes”, 6th Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic tonight through Sunday between Red River and Brazos streets, pausing a planned reopening.
Earlier in the week, authorities cited the continuing investigation into the terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day as a reason for the delay.
“Due to the incident that occurred in New Orleans, having vehicular traffic on 6th St. Thursday and Sunday evenings has been paused until there is a clear understanding that this was a single attack. Once that is known, opening 6th St. to vehicular traffic will resume on Thursdays and Sundays.” — APD spokesperson Anna Sabana
Officials said, however, new barriers will soon be installed but they provided no clear timetable as to when the reopening of the street to traffic on weekends would begin. (Austin American-Statesman)
