Austin police were busy Tuesday evening with two homicides within six hours of each other.

A homicide investigation is underway in North Austin after police discovered an unconscious, bleeding individual outside Encore House, a halfway house that helps ex-offenders adjust to life outside prison, on Wonsley Drive, who was pronounced dead at the scene, with at least one other person involved in the incident.

A high-priority call reported an unconscious person with blood on the floor in the 400 block of East Wonsley Drive at 5:15 p.m.

Hours later, a pedestrian was struck and killed in an apparent hit-and-run in a parking lot located on South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Skyway, an incident that is being investigated as a homicide.

Court documents reveal new details about a deadly three-vehicle crash that occurred on June 29 in Round Rock which resulted in the deaths of Agustin Guillen, Quinn Stegall, and Maximo Ramirez.

Kearra Thomas, 22, was arrested for intoxication manslaughter. Thomas’s vehicle struck an already overturned car on I-35, and Maximo Ramirez, who was trying to help at the scene, was also hit and killed. Thomas failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of .103.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is investigating whether Bombshells, an Austin establishment, illegally sold alcohol to Thomas. Quinn Stegall’s mother urged for increased patrols on I-35 to prevent reckless driving.

Between January and June, 154,447 service requests were submitted to Austin 311 from across the city, according to data research done by KXAN-TV.

Noise complaints are the most-common service request, with more than 13,300 reports citywide. More than 12,300 requests for garbage collection were made, while 11,200 people requested a code officer. (KXAN-TV)

A large fire at a tire recycling facility in the 3300 block of E SH 29 in Burnet County continued to burn for the second day. Authorities say it is not currently classified as a criminal investigation as the believe the blaze was started due to a mechanical malfunction.

Hurricane Flossie, a Category 2 storm, is moving northwest along Mexico’s Pacific coast at 17 km/h with 155 km/h winds and 195 km/h gusts, affecting Colima, Michoacán, and Jalisco.

Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy is a holdout on the GOP tax and spending bill.
