The latest information on measles in Austin-Travis County and the state was shared by local officials on Monday.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, Travis County Judge Andy Brown and Austin-Travis County Medical Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes spoke from City Hall.
Last week, Travis County reported a second measles case in a vaccinated adult. The individual, who likely contracted the virus through domestic travel within the U.S., was isolating with mild symptoms as of April 25.
Austin-Travis County Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes stated that the individual with measles traveled both out of state and within the state by airplane. The CDC is currently contacting fellow passengers from that flight, while local health officials are tracing potential exposures in South Austin. Mayor Kirk Watson added that they are also “identifying all the places that the patient visited while they were contagious.”
