Austin police officer Christopher Taylor on Tuesday was sentenced to two years in prison for the 2019 shooting death of Mauris Desilva, a mentally ill man who was holding a knife.

APD Chief Lisa Davis issued a statement regarding Taylor’s sentencing.
Taylor’s defense attorneys immediately filed an appeal and the judge overseeing the case agreed to release Taylor on bond while the appeals process plays out.
Taylor had faced up to 10 years in prison on a deadly conduct charge.
