More than a week after Election Day, incumbent Austin Mayor Kirk Watson has declared victory.
Updated election results on Thursday showed Watson had narrowly avoided another runoff, claiming outright victory by securing more than 50% of the vote.



Authorities overnight responded to a possible homicide.
Just after 12:30 a.m., police received reports of gunfire at an apartment complex on the 8400 block of Goldfinch Court. This is near the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Thurmond Street.
When officers arrived, they found an “obviously deceased individual.”
A person of interest had reportedly been detained.
