The revival of the CSCRM stemmed from a lawsuit that took place years ago. A group of 15 sexual assault survivors filed a lawsuit against the City of Austin and APD in 2018 for the mishandling of their cases.
The city settled the lawsuit and made an effort to improve its handling of such cases which has resulted in more sexual assault convictions, increased staffing and funding for victims’ services, enhanced police training, and the revival of the CSCRM. (CBS Austin)
